In the past two years, Boyertown has lost several of its most generous benefactors - among these Charles and Mary-Lou Haddad. Along with serving an integral role in our organization, the fruits of their labor and benevolence can be enjoyed throughout downtown - from the streetscape and planters that beautify us to the historic emblems like the State Theatre and Gen. Spaatz Museum that define our unique identity. It seems only right to repay their incredible generosity with an homage that they, and all of Boyertown's volunteers, truly deserve.

Health Benefits of Passive Parks & Water Features

Walking paths and gentle terrain are ideal for low-impact physical activities such as walking or light jogging, helping to maintain mobility, flexibility, and cardiovascular health.

Serene atmosphere, coupled with soothing sounds of trickling water, can significantly reduce stress levels. Spending time in these environments encourages relaxation and helps alleviate anxiety, promoting overall mental well-being.

Passive parks serve as communal spaces where individuals can come together, fostering social connections and a sense of community. For older adults, social interaction is crucial for combating loneliness and enhancing feelings of belonging.

Natural surroundings and the sound of flowing water can provide gentle cognitive stimulation, improving mood and cognitive function. Spending time outdoors in these environments may help alleviate symptoms of conditions such as depression.

Fountains offer a multi-sensory experience, with the sight and sound of flowing water providing a calming effect. This sensory stimulation can enhance mood and cognitive function, contributing to overall well-being, especially for older individuals.

The presence of nature and water features in passive parks can have therapeutic effects, reducing blood pressure, lowering heart rate, and promoting relaxation. These benefits are particularly advantageous for older adults who may be dealing with age-related health issues.

Designed to be accessible to people of all ages and abilities, including those with mobility challenges. This inclusivity ensures that older adults can easily access and enjoy the benefits of these spaces without encountering barriers.

Quality of Life
