Founded in 2005In 2004, Boyertown High School was the only school in the PAC 10 without an all-weather track. The cinder track was unsafe, and competing schools refused to compete on it. Parents knew that something had to be done, so they began raising money. With help from alumni athletes and coaches, they raised over $50k in a few months and replaced the track. People were in awe of how quickly they were able to get the funds together, and the group was urged to continue helping the community in other ways.
In 2005, Charlene Wysocki and Boyertown Area High School PE teacher Barbara Furman ran with that momentum and founded the Wellness Council of Boyertown. Among the first events were a community field day, Senior BINGO walking, and the Wellness Fair. The Wellness Fair is now a flagship event that incorporates a Kids' Celebrity Chef competition. The Wellness Council of Boyertown began the Annual Boyertown Turkey Trot in 2016 and it has grown every single year, bringing in over 1000 participants for a Thanksgiving Morning 5k and 1K Fun Run. Today, the Wellness Council of Boyertown continues to help the community thrive through community programs, events, partnerships, outreach, and wellness initiatives.
